• Cala dÓr

  

  Cala d'Or is on the south east coast of Mallorca there are three main areas: the town centre of Cala d'Or, Cala Egos and Cala Ferrera. There are some small, fine sandy beaches including Cala Gran, Cala d'Or, Cala Egos, Cala Es Forti, Cala Serena and Cala Esmeralda. A mini 'road train' regularly runs for holidaymakers between different parts of the resort and the beaches. The town centre is very lively in the summer months but much more low key than the larger and more populated resorts in Majorca. There is a pedestionised  area offering a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants and a wide selection of international cuisine.

  There is a small marina, housing expensive yachts, which is surrounded by bars, restaurants and Hotels including the Yacht Club Cal d´Or.

  This s a mainly purpose built resort, and so has all the facilities you may expect of a good holiday resort.

  Cala d'Or is around 45 minutes from Palma airport, and a little more off the beaten path, making it reasonably quiet traffic wise. The nearest major town to Cala d'Or is Santanyi which is slightly inland. The  fishing port of Porto Petra is  a five minute journey by car and can also be reached by the mini train.

  Cala Viñas

  

  Cala Vinyes is a quiet resort on the South West Coast of Mallorca.

  It has a small pretty beach which can get busy during the summer months with guests from its two large Hotel skirting both sides of the beach.

  There are only a couple of bars and restaurants but you can get a bus or taxi into nearby Magaluf if you want the bars, restaurants and nightlife and there are regular buses into the City of Palma, and other resorts on the coastline.

  Magaluf

  

  If you like the buzzing nightlife, then this is the place for you!  Magaluf has a wealth of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.  You can find everything from fish and chips to Chinese food.

  Entertainment includes singers, Elvis and Tina Turner impersonators, lots of karaoke if you like to belt one out.  You get crowds of girls and guys here as there are lots of stag and hen parties.  You can sit outside the piano bar roundabout Magaluf and amuse yourself with groups of smurfs, fluffy bunnies in high heels, or demure groups of James Bonds.  Entertainment in itself.

  You can club away to the early hours, after a walk up the Punta Balena or The strip, banging music, exotic dancers and lots of beer and cocktails.

  During the day you can relax on Magaluf´s fine sandy beach, everything in Magaluf is within walking distance, so you don´t have to stroll too far with that hangover, you can get food at one of the many beachfront bars.  The choice from a curry to a paella.

  If an early night and a good nights sleep is your thing then try another resort!

  Portals Nous

  

  

  Portals Nous is on the South West Coast of Mallorca

  Portals Nous is a small harbour,  containing some of the most splendid yachts in Europe.  This is the home of the rich and famous, and many celebrities hang out here.  Its a world away from its close neighbours, Palma Nova and Magaluf

  There is a small beach accessed via a small private road at the side of the harbour.

  There are some beautiful restaurants here, serving International cuisine, and well as traditional Mallorquin dishes.  You can walk along its small harbour and admire the beautiful yachts, or browse its the designer boutiques.  But take lots of cash, this resort isn´t cheap, a pair of shoes here could cost you between 300 and 800 euros, but its fun to window shop even if you havn´t got the cash.

  If you are lucky enough to be loaded, this is the place for you.  There is a small beach, if thats your thing, or you can enjoy a short walk from your boat to a michelin starred restaurant within a couple of minutes.

  There are a few estate agents and yacht agents here too, if you are thinking of buying into that lifestyle.

  Porto Petro

  

  Portopetro is a district of Santanyi, Mallorca (Majorca) and is  around 62km from Palma.  Its a small fishing village on the South East Coast of the island.

  Portopetro is a small quiet resort, a world away from the busier resorts such as Magalluf, Palma Nova and Santa Ponça and has a harbour, small marina and a secluded beach which is adjacent to the harbour. There are a number of restaurants and bars distributed along the harbour's edge serving local and Mediterranean cuisine.

  Puerto Pollensa

  

  Puerto Pollensa is the northern coast of Mallorca skirting around the Bay of Pollensa. It is located about six kilometres east of the inland town of Pollensa and two kilometres southeast of Cala San Vincent and north west of Alcudia.  Its a fairly quiet resort, with most of its bars and restaurants centered around the Main Square and the seafront.

  The pine walk is the pedestrian walkway that starts from the Vora Mar supermarket and continues around its pretty bay.  Shaded by pine trees, hence its name.  You can cycle along here, but this can get a little crowded with walkers in the summer months.

  The Main Square, Plaça Miguel Capllonch is bounded on three sides by restaurants, shops and bars, and the Church of Our Lady of Carmen to the west. There is a regular weekly market on Wednesdays, when the square is filled with traders selling a variety of fresh produce, as well as clothes a crafts.

  This is a family friendly resort, and part of the promenade front is car free.  The beach is sandy and the water shallow for children, to some way out.  Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire.

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

  Sa Calobra

  

  

  

  Sa Calobra is on the North Western Coast of Mallorca.

  It is a stunning spot and attracts many tourists in the summer months, which fill the small number of restaurants and car parks. Many restaurants here are self service, which is unusual for Mallorca, this can only be due to the the fact that this is a tiny place with a small beach and a tourist overload. If you want to avoid the crowds during the summer, go later in the afternoon, by which time the day trippers have usually departed in their coaches for the day.

  Explore further by taking a walk through the rockface, from which a tunnel has been carved and lit, to take you to the entrance to the box canyon lying at the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis (River of the Twins). Here you will find yourselft surrounded by its two cliff faces, with a view to the sea through a small gap at its meeting point. There is only one route to Sa Calobra, its a mountainous road with little room for passing vehicles, and you will have to pass coaches, or lag behind as we did on route. However the stunning scenery makes it all worth while. There are beautiful vistas of the sea and mountains, with rocky terrain.

  Sóller and Puerto de Sóller

  

  

  

  Sóller is a town near the north west coast ofMallorca , (Majorca). The town around 3Km inland, from the Port of Sóller.  The traditional old Orange Express links Sóller to Port of Sóller.

  You can get the Ferrocarril de Sóller from the City of Palma, which takes you through the lovely mallorcan countryside. The Ferrocaril was completed in 1911 after work began on the profits of the orange and lemon trade.

  Sóller now has a large tourist base, its pleasant to wander around and there are bars and restaurants on its Plaça Constitució, its quite a pretty square with a church a Town Hall and the lovely architecture of the  Banco de Sóller and you can take the tram down to Puerto Sóller.

  Port de Sóller is a small but busy resort, as turists arrive here from Sóller after taking the Ferrrocarril from Palma City.  The port has been extensively modernised during the last 5 years but still retains all the charm as a fishing port.  There is a not too small beach, on the bay, which is sheltered as its is almost totally surrounded by land, owith only a quite small inlet into the bay, the headland having two lighthouses.

  There are lots of bars and restuarants to choose from here and a few tourist shops and hotels, and there are pedalos and sunbeds available for hire. You can see a various species of birds here, such as egrets, ducks, geese and gulls.  

  This is a very pretty resort certainly worth a visit.

  There is  a bus service here from  Palma City.

  The [1] Jardí Botanic is on the outskirts of the town and is laid out with the plants of the Balearics and the Mediterranean islands. The Modernista mansion in the garden houses El Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals (The Museum of Balearic Natural Sciences).

  Valldemossa

  

  Valldemossa (in Catalan) or Valdemosa (in Spanish) is an inland villiage near the north west coast of Mallorca.

  Valdemossa, gets very busy with tourists especially during the summer months, but its a lovely place to stroll among its old narrow streets, and there are wonderful views of the Mallorcan countryside here, although its not a seaside resort, it its not too far from the more southerly resorts and Palma.  There are lots of shops of all kinds, cafes and restaurants.  There is parking a small car park, but come early to get a place.

  [1]Valdemossa is famous for its landmark: the Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa, built at the beginning of the 14th century, when the mystic and philosopher Ramon Llull lived in this area of Majorca.

  In the 1830s the Spanish government confiscated monasteries, and the historic estate was sold to private owners, who have since hosted some prominent guests. These have included the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and the French writer George Sand (who wrote a notable account of A Winter in Majorca, describing their 1838–39 visit and praising the island's natural beauty but criticizing what she perceived as the prejudice and vices of the natives).

  Since the 19th century Valldemossa has been promoted internationally as a beautiful spot thanks to the affection of a distinguished traveller and cultural writer, the Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator.

  Until the elections of 2007 the town's mayor was the only one in the democratic Kingdom of Spain to remain in office from the times of the Franco dictatorship.
